AT&T To Award $1 Million To Urban Alliance To Support Students’ Success After High School

AT&T Aspire today awarded $1 million to Urban Alliance to prepare students for success after high school graduation in a rapidly evolving technical landscape.
Nationwide, there are more than 6.7 million unfilled jobs, yet 4.6 million young people are neither in school nor working. The current school-to-career pipeline is unequipped to provide young people with the skills, networks, and experience needed to graduate from high school and eventually connect to open jobs. This problem hits close to home in Northern Virginia, where one in ten young people are disconnected from the workforce or school. With a rapidly-growing economy and jobs flooding into the region, Northern Virginia is facing a need for more talented and educated local workers, such as those who have completed Urban Alliance programs.
Urban Alliance and AT&T announced the award during a special event and panel discussion on youth workforce development with local civic, business, and academic leaders at Wakefield High School in Arlington, one of 29 schools Urban Alliance partners with in the greater Washington, DC area. The panelists will explore how we can build a strong talent pipeline, ensuring that local youth are graduating high school prepared for the jobs of the future.
