Students Get an Inside Look at Clark Construction During Shadow Day

High school students Michael Fletcher, Desiree’ Whitener, and Johna Jones recently got an inside look at the inner workings of a construction company during Clark’s “Shadow Day.” The students began their day by meeting with individuals from Clark’s Marketing, Business Development, Accounting, Finance, Preconstruction, and Operations, to discuss what each department does and their role within the company. Through these discussions, and personal anecdotes from employees, the students gained a sense of what a “day in the life” of a Clark employee is like.

Following lunch with Dave Mehlbaum, Micheline Diakite, and Stephanie Mason, the group joined Hank Ras for a jobsite tour and safety walk-through of the City Market at O Street project.  The entire day’s events were organized by Training and Development Coordinator Brianne Dey.

Michael and Desiree’ – 2012 graduates of McKinley Tech Senior High School – both participated in Urban Alliance’s high school internship program. They recently completed year-long internships in Clark’s Accounting and Human Resources departments, respectively.

Michael will attend West Virginia Institute this upcoming school year.

Desiree’ will be attending Tennessee State University in the fall and plans to major in Electrical Engineering.
